Untitled (as yet)

After a lengthy absence, at last, a new painting to post, as yet untitled.

I am not sure this is the right way to approach titling but in this case that is the way it is.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

love the texture and restricted colour in this Ian...
I find titling pieces one of the most frustrating parts so you're not alone. You could leave it as 'Untitled' as many artists do, but you'd need to distinguish it in some way (the date perhaps) for ease of later identification in records.
anyway I do like it : )

Greetings Ian,

An interesting painting, which is certainly minimalistic and consistent with your style.

In regards to a title, the first thing that popped into my head was 'Topography.' Of course with the rectangle element off to the left this title could be called into question, unless we consider it a border. I guess further observations and study is needed.

Warmest regards,
Egmont

Hello Ian
So lovely to see your new work...I am ever a fan.

I did find myself nodding when I read Egmont's suggestion of 'Topography' just as I was feeling the quality of 'Archeology'.

this piece seems so passionate to me, perhaps due to the red color but it also feels very intimate... I guess I title my work based on my feelings and what the piece seems to say to me... well done and glad you are back...

looks rich and earthy-- layered textures.. do these words help? When I am searching for titles I will make a list of words..related to the painting.. you will know when the title appears.. it will feel right.

Mysterious and ancient... beautiful work. "Life on Mars" comes into my mind...

I just discovered you via the network of blogs and I adore the textures you bring to your work. My thoughts on title
Anthologies from Memory. A spin on a line from a novel I am currently reading. It is the first thing that popped into my head when I saw it.
