Breckland - April

Breckland - April  24" x 24" (60 x 60 cm) Acrylic on framed panel

The Breckland is an area of sandy heath lying in the south of Norfolk and the north of Suffolk. The Scots Pine is the predominant tree and many areas are covered with gorse and bracken.

As I was taking my son to Stansted airport in April I was struck by the lovely yellow Gorse and the dark green of the pine trees. This is my abstract interpretation of the scene.

Definitely gives the feel of the Brecklands - having driven through Thetford many a time. I can even see the rabbits!

Hi Ian:

I so enjoyed your painting and the history/description you provide on Breckland. The painting stands on its own, but having the background, story, or narrative makes for a more in-depth viewing experience.

Best,
Pam

you seem to have captured the essence of the heath land- something I remember reading about in the classical English books- lovely abstracted landscape here.

Comment from William Cook,

I've just discovered your blog, and I must say I am delighted. I admire your wonderful approaches, and instantly recognize the the overall spirit of what you're doing. We must be on the same wavelength at the moment. I'm having way too much fun with the materials themselves to be bothered with trying to be a human camera. And I have been known to take a few [abstract] snapshots like your 'Waterline' series. A brilliant series by the way. I have not seen everything you've posted yet, only some, but I'm going to have a wonderful time exploring. Thanks for all your efforts. I'm an instant fan. All the best, Wm

atmospheric view of the Brecklands... I live in Norfolk, not far away, and it could easily be an abstract view of the landscape around here. Beautiful works!
