Wingfield barns

Last Saturday I went to the “Artworks” exhibition at the recently refurbished Wingfield Barns in Suffolk where the work of 30 established East Anglian artists was being shown.

Photography within the exhibition was not permitted but I bought three small paintings that I have photographed at home for this blog post

Untitled 13 by Eleanora Knowland
Watercolour

Sketch Blue 2 by Gabrielle Stoddart

Acrylic and Ink

XIX by Jazz Green

Mixed Media

The exhibition was a delight, a wonderful mix of painting and sculpture was displayed in the marvellous old barn complex at Wingfield College and it was a beautiful warm spring afternoon as a bonus.

The tiny village of Wingfield is deep in the Suffolk countryside and the juxtaposition of the church, village pub and the 14th century Wingfield College with the adjacent barns makes a classic English village setting.

The following images are all of Wingfield village, I used the Topaz Adjust software on all of them to give a slightly HDR effect, I am not sure whether it was a good idea.

love this visit you share to wingfield, and excited about the first watercolor, untitled 13...

your photos below are enticing...that rogue canvas!

Hi Ian...well you know that I'm a fan of just about everything you post...the paintings you chose are 'so you' I truly get excited over the first image...it never ceases to amaze me what we each can see through our artist eye.

I don't know what the HDR effect is, or does, exactly but I love the vividness of the photos and it is so relaxing to take a walk about your environment.

Fun for me too that we share place names...I often travel through neighboring Norfolk and Suffolk...and of course the charm of Colonial Williamsburg is just up the road, which your photos surely bring to mind.

Dear Ian,

The first artwork you are showing reminded me of the cliffs of Dover and that could be a suitable title, since the artist did choose not to give it a name.

All the artwork reminds me of landscapes and so perfect for today being Earth Day.

Looking upon your photographs of the English countryside, make me want to pack and hitch over to the isle, but only in my dreams.

Wishing you a wonderful day,
Egmont

I love each of the pieces you acquired from the show and how the two more subdued, horizontal pieces ground the middle, more chaotic work. Superb taste! (wish I could have seen the rogue painting in the previous post, curious to see what you consider a 'failure')

Thanks Ian, for taking us along with you. It's beautiful to see the country side of England, your superb choice of paintings and to see your previous post with images of edges.

What a picturesque area.

I like all three paintings you purchased. That top one has a delectable subtlety.

And your photographs dazzle. Since I have a thing for roads and paths, I especially like that one with the lone stroller.

I wandered over from Leslie's, having noticed your comment there. I'm glad I did.

you made some good purchases-- I especially like the last one-- looks like striations of rock formations.. and I love to go to art shows like the one you went to.

The paintings that you share here are beautiful and moving, and have reminded me of England. I was there several years ago for the burial of my mother's ashes in Great Ellingham. I also lived there as a little girl, (Langford and Letchworth, do you know these places?
Thank you for sharing. roxanne
