Untitled

Untitled Mixed media on canvas 39" x 39"

There is not much to say about this painting. I felt that I should try something quite different from many of my efforts and I am well aware that I need to be a bit looser in my work; perhaps this is a small step in that direction.

I like it, Ian. I know what you mean about "loosening up" because I found myself trying to do that, too. Everything you do is learning, right?

Loose - I was just reading about that at Zendotstudio blog. She said "excuse me officer, I'd like to file an harassment complaint against my mind" Me too!

Its a great painting Ian. I like the movement and rhythm within the structure.

I think you have balanced some looseness in the geometric shapes and balanced warm yellows in with all those various shades of gray- very nice.

Dear Ian,

Most interesting and I can see who the two artists are that have provided some influence and inspiration. I like the new direction that you are heading in.

I almost feel like it is calling out for some calligraphy.

Warmest regards,
Egmont

I struggle with this myself- especially having started a new medium (encaustic) a few months ago.
I think you've achieved a looseness in the brushstrokes, and it's effectively balanced by geometric elements.
